Politico: Bank of America Stadium cancellation costs nets 'hundreds of thousands'

Bank of America Stadium cancellation costs nets 'hundreds of thousands'

By DYLAN BYERS
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Democrats' decision to move the final night of this week's convention indoors is costing the broadcast and cable outlets "hundreds of thousands of dollars," sources at multiple networks tell POLITICO.

The final night of the Democratic National Convention was scheduled to take place outdoors at Bank of America stadium — a move that had already frustrated the networks because of the additional costs it would incur. But following forecasts of thunderstorms, the convention organizers decided to move the event into the Time Warner Center, where the rest of this week's activities have taken place.
While network crews are happy that they don't have to move more equipment to the stadium, the principals are upset by the Democrats' decision to hold the event outdoors in the first place.
Sources at the networks would not confirm the exact amount they had invested in setting up at the stadium, but confirmed it was a hefty six figures.

Hard thing. Real hard thing. This is then in addition to everything else, even for the organizers. (Dirk Huelsenbeck)
